It is quite common for certain features introduced as a test in a BETA to not end up reaching the final or stable version. This is what Xiaomi has recently done, cancelling one of the new features that should have arrived in HyperOS 2 and which, at the time, was also the subject of much discussion.
We talk about the new interface for multitasking that Xiaomi showed in one of the first BETAs of HyperOS 2. This showed us the open applications in a very similar way to iOS and, among other things, sought to simplify switching between applications under a more intuitive and easy-to-use design.
Xiaomi cancels iOS-style multitasking for its phones
As we can see below these lines, this new look for multitasking, also known as “recent apps”, showed us the open applications under a stacked animation . Unlike the current HyperOS 2 design in grid format or horizontally, this one made it easier for us to change applications under a more striking and quicker to use animation .
Well, Xiaomi has finally decided to cancel this new feature due to the high resource consumption that it entailed. According to XiaomiTime , Xiaomi has not managed to optimize this new interface and has decided to prioritize the fluidity of the system and resource efficiency since this is the philosophy of HyperOS 2.
In some smartphones like the Xiaomi 14 , resource consumption may not be a problem since its processor has more than enough performance for it, but in other more modest ones such as the Redmi 13C 5G, it can be a burden on the user experience. In this way, Xiaomi’s main reason may have been the poor compatibility that it could have between devices , deciding not to implement this new interface until it had optimized performance.
