Google Podcasts, the company’s popular podcast service, will be shut down in the near future to make way for YouTube Music, the company announced a few months ago. Google has decided to phase out Google Podcasts in favor of YouTube Music entirely by the year 2024.
After Google Podcasts is discontinued in 2024, a new feature will be added to the YouTube Music app: the ability to subscribe to multiple podcasts at once via an RSS feed. Currently, podcasters using YouTube Music’s podcasting feature must upload episodes as videos.
According to YouTube Music, users on Android and the web may soon have the option to manually add a podcast show via RSS feed. Once the update is available to you, open the YouTube Music app and navigate to the Library tab >> tap on the Podcast icon in the upper right. When you do this, a new Add Podcast option will appear at the very bottom of the screen.
Here, you get to tailor your experience to your individual tastes: Both the Find podcasts on YouTube and the Add podcasts by RSS feed (privately or by Public URL) options are available when you select the Browse top podcasts option. This newly added option will then appear beside other podcasts.
In addition, Google Podcasts will be discontinued at some point in 2024. YouTube has taken this feedback into consideration and will now permit podcasters to upload RSS content rather than video-based podcasts.
About YouTube Music
A division of Google called YouTube created the music streaming service known as YouTube Music. It was launched in 2015 as a separate app and platform from the traditional YouTube video-sharing service. YouTube Music allows users to discover, stream, and organize music content, including official tracks, albums, music videos, and user-generated content.
Key features and information about YouTube Music include:
- Subscription Plans: YouTube Music offers both free and premium subscription plans. The free version is ad-supported and provides basic music streaming features. The premium version, called YouTube Music Premium, offers an ad-free experience, offline playback, and background play (allowing music to play while the app is in the background or the device is locked).
- Music Library: YouTube Music has an extensive music library, featuring official tracks from artists, albums, and a vast collection of music videos. It also includes playlists, curated recommendations, and personalized playlists based on the user’s listening habits.
- Personalization: The service utilizes Google’s machine learning algorithms to personalize recommendations based on a user’s listening history, preferences, and location. This includes features like “Your Mix,” which provides a personalized playlist of songs tailored to the user.
- Integration with YouTube: While YouTube Music operates as a separate app, it is closely integrated with the traditional YouTube platform. Users can find and play music videos directly within the YouTube Music app, and their music-related activities can influence recommendations on both platforms.
- Podcasts: In addition to music, YouTube Music has expanded its content to include podcasts, offering a wide range of podcasts on various topics.
- Platform Availability: YouTube Music is available on various platforms, including mobile devices (iOS and Android), web browsers, and smart speakers. It can be accessed through a dedicated app or via a web browser.
