According to user complaints, the Apple Books app has ceased working for some customers after installing the iOS 15.5 upgrades. People have complained about being unable to open any books on the app.
A significant number of customers have also claimed that the program is crashing and that their stored PDFs have vanished from their iPad devices. In addition to security updates, Apple launched iOS 15.5 ahead of WWDC 2022, introducing new features to Apple Wallet and Podcasts. It also made iPadOS 15.5 available to qualified iPad owners.
As per a report by 9to5Mac and a bunch of reviews on the App Store, people have listed a number of problems post installing the iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5 updates. It seems that apart from bringing new experiences to Apple Wallet and Podcasts as well as security fixes, it also brought some issues to the Apple Books app.
While some users claim they are unable to start the app, others report frequent app crashes. A number of reviews mention how hundreds of pages of stored PDFs disappeared, leaving them with nothing to read. People frequently report synchronization issues, such as being unable to completely delete unwanted books.
Despite all of the issues, it appears like Apple is working on a solution. According to 9to5Mac, the following version, iOS 15.6, is in the beta stage and does not have the problem. The same is true for the beta version of iOS 16, which was announced at WWDC 2022 and is set to be released later this year.
The Apple Books app was apparently determined to be fully functional in both circumstances. iOS 15.6 is expected to be released to all users in the coming weeks.
